“HANGOVER” was released in the form of worldwide album and it achieved 10 million views on the day of its disclosure, and then 60 million within a week. It went on to add 10 million more views in 13 days, after the 4 this month in the morning, when the number recorded 90 million. However, it took more than a month for the video to reach 100 million views, going against many people’s expectation that the growth in the number would get a bigger momentum.
PSY’s mega hit “Gangnam Style” achieved 100 million views within 52 days from its disclosure. Then, his next mega-hit “Gentleman” broke the record on Youtube, by achieving the number within four days, building on “Gangnam Style”‘s popularity. Now, with the 100 million view mark for “HANGOVER”, PSY has three music videos that surpassed 100 million views.
PSY’s new song “HANGOVER” is a catchy hip-hop music with powerful rapping and groove, which was made by PSY, American rapper SnoopDogg, and songwriter Yoo Gun Hyung. The song is mainly about Korean drinking culture and is filled with English lyrics. However, some Korean lyrics such as “‘안 예쁘면 예뻐 보일 때까지 빠라삐리뽀” (If you’re not pretty, until you look pretty) and “받으시오” (Take the glass) also stand out in the lyrics.

The music video of “HANGOVER” contains a lot of scenes that show Korea’s unique culture, including those in a convenience store, public bath, barber shop, cart bar, amusement park, and billiard club. Notably, the video depicts Korea’s drinking culture such as making boilermaker, joining with other people at a bar, and slow dance at karaoke room, in a humorous way. It well shows PSY’s flagship humor, based on uniquely cheerful and comic elements.
