GD, Competing for Top Place in 美FUSE TV “International Pop Best New Artist”
[스타뉴스 길혜성 기자] G-Dragon, the lead singer of boy band Big Bang (G-Dragon, Top, Taeyang, Dae Sung, Seungri) is competing in a nip and tuck match to be number one in the “International Pop” segment of American music cable channel FUSE TV’s “Best New Artist” poll, which is rated by fans’ votes.
From the end of August this year, FUSE TV has been conducting the voting by fans all over the world on their web-site, as the first round, under the theme of selecting the best new artist.
The poll is conducted on 72 global artists in total 12 genres including electronics/dance, indie rock, pop, teen pop, international pop, hip-hop, underground hip-hop, R&B, soul, folk/country, punk, and metal/hard rock. G-Dragon is one of the six candidates for the best new artist in international pop segment, with 2NE1’s lead singer CL (Korea), Belinda (Mexico), Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Japan), Priyanka Chopra (India), and D’Banj (Nigeria).
As of 6:00 a.m. on the 7, G-Dragon had taken the lead with 50% of vote-getting rate, running ahead of Mexican female singer Belinda who obtained 48% of the votes. However, in the afternoon on that day, Belinda recorded 50% of vote-obtaining rate, temporarily reclaiming the number one place from G-Dragon, whose rate declined to 49%. The nip and tuck competition between G-Dragon and Belinda to be the best new international pop artist is gaining much attention.
FUSE TV’s poll for the first round of selection of the best new artist in each genre will end on the 10. Since then, most-voted artists in each genre will compete again in the second and third rounds, to be the one and only best new artist.
On the 2 and 5 this month, G-Dragon released part 1 and part 2 of his second full solo album Coup d’Etat respectively, which has been sweeping top places in Korea’s major music charts as well as iTunes main single and album charts in many countries around the world. Now, People around the globe are paying keen attention to whether he will be the number one again, in FUSE TV’s poll to choose the best new artist in the international pop segment.
