BABYMONSTER Conquers Their First Variety Show Appearance—Charm Captures the Hearts of Veteran Entertainers
[마이데일리=김도형 기자] “If they’re this good on their first variety show appearance, they’ll only get better.” YG Entertainment’s rookie group BABYMONSTER dazzled in their full-group debut on a variety show, captivating all the senior hosts.
On the 13th, the JTBC variety program “Knowing Bros” featured BABYMONSTER, who officially debuted with the title track “SHEESH” from their 1st mini album [BABYMONS7ER]. The episode depicted them joining the hosts for a spring camping trip.
BABYMONSTER, who have gained attention as a global group since their debut, made their first variety show appearance on “Knowing Bros.” The members unanimously expressed their affection for the show, saying, “We really love ‘Knowing Bros’ and told (our company) we wanted to be on it.”
Members particularly showed affection for Kang Ho-dong and Lee Soo-geun. RUKA picked Kang Ho-dong as her favorite, laughing and saying, “He looks cute,” and “He looks like a character.” Meanwhile, Kang Ho-dong and Lee Soo-geun were surprised to learn that their sons, Kang Si-hoo (born 2009) and Lee Tae-jun (born 2008), are around the same age or similar to the members.
Although they appeared nervous at the beginning of the broadcast, they gradually adapted to the “Knowing Bros” atmosphere and fully showcased their talents. RAMI mimicked the members’ characteristics, pretending to be narcissistic while mimicking AHYEON combing her hair while looking in the mirror, which made the members agree, “She really does that a lot.” Seo Jang-hoon commented, “I don’t know if it’s accurate, but she does it well,” admiring RAMI’s skillful acting.
The show was also a platform for them to fully display the skills honed during their trainee days, with both singing and dancing stages that left everyone astonished. From AHYEON’s cover of Charlie Puth’s “Dangerously” that surpassed 40 million views to RAMI’s perfect cover of AKMU’s “DINOSAUR,” they drew applause.
BABYMONSTER’s dance lead, RUKA, showcased a powerful dance performance, revealing her hidden charm behind her cute visuals, which led to “Knowing Bros” main dancers Min Kyung-hoon and Shindong responding with a dance, making the BABYMONSTER members laugh.
Music industry senior Shindong was impressed by BABYMONSTER’s variety show skills, saying, “If they’re this good on their first appearance, they’ll only get better,” while Kim Hee-chul joked, “The members are quite mature. Please come back while you’re still healthy.”
BABYMONSTER expressed their gratitude, “We want to come back again. The reactions and compliments have given us a lot of courage.
