[더팩트=원세나 기자] YG’s new girl group, BABYMONSTER, has finally confirmed its debut as a seven-member group.

YG Entertainment posted the ‘BABYMONSTER – DEBUT MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENT VIDEO’ on its official blog at midnight on the 12th. Given the intense interest in the final outcome, producer YANG HYUN SUK personally introduced the debut members.

The first member was AHYEON, an ‘all-rounder’ member who excels in vocals, rap, and performance, and has the ability and skills to lead BABYMONSTER. The second member was RUKA, a unique female rapper with the YG-style hip-hop identity.

The third member was CHIQUITA, the youngest among the seven preliminary members and a trainee for a short period, but she quickly grew and showed unlimited potential. The fourth member, HARAM, was highly praised for her stable live performance and the ability to reinterpret songs in her own musical color.

The last member was PHARITA, who is fluent in several languages, including her native Thai, English, and Korean, in addition to her solid skills. The members were chosen based on individual capabilities, synergy as a team, and global capabilities.

At this point, producer YANG HYUN SUK pulled out a surprise card. He added RORA, who was scheduled to join another YG girl group, and ASA, who was planning to participate in a new project in Japan, and confirmed the debut of BABYMONSTER as a seven-member group without any dropouts.

After the end of the ‘Last Evaluation’, producer YANG HYUN SUK had been considering for the past two weeks, monitoring the many fans who were supporting the seven-member debut. He explained the background of the seven-member debut, saying, “The ‘YG Family’ is not just a collection of YG singers. I believe that YG’s fans are the real ‘YG Family’. ASA and RORA are the members chosen by you.”

The blueprint for BABYMONSTER’s activities was also revealed for the fans who have been waiting for new news. They plan to accelerate their debut this fall and return the love they’ve received through group and unit activities. Producer YANG HYUN SUK said, “I will step on the debut accelerator pedal and do my best to support the members. I sincerely thank the fans who have been watching us. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate the members who have been anxious.”

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER is expected to change the landscape of the global music market beyond the Korean music scene. Even before their official debut, they set a new record for K-pop girl groups by exceeding 2 million subscribers on their official YouTube channel in just 129 days, and the cumulative number of teaser content views is over 400 million. Billboard in the United States selected them as a ‘K-pop artist to watch’, predicting that they will “create a new wave in the K-pop genre.”
