BLACKPINK Reaches 70 million Subscribers on YouTube…First Among Artists from All Around the World

[매일경제 스타투데이=박세연 기자] BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel subscribers reached more than 70 million subscribers. This is the first and most among artists from all around the world.

According to YG Entertainment on the 28th, the number of BLACKPINK’s official YouTube subscribers reached more than 70 million subscribers as of 11:34 a.m. on the day. This feat was reached in about 5 years and 5 months since the channel was made.

The group earlier listed their name on the ‘Top 5 YouTube Subscribers’ list on July 2020, which was a first among non-English speaking artist, showing how strong their presence is in the market. They surpassed the number of subscribers Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmallow, and Justin Bieber had one by one, and finally became the artist with the greatest number of subscribers on September 10th.

BLACKPINK has been gathering millions of new YouTube subscribers every time it released new songs regardless of team and solo activities. With the release of LISA’s recent ‘LALISA’ album, more than 5 million new subscribers subscribed to their channel, and widened the gap between Justin Bieber’s channel by more than 3.5 million subscribers which held the previous record of having the greatest number of subscribers among artists.

BLACKPINK has 32 videos on their channel which reached hundreds of million views, and their accumulative number of views has reached 21.3 billion. Views are rising steeply for the latest songs, and existing songs are also maintaining their popularity.

Representatively, the title song for BLACKPINK’s first mini album in 2017 ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ reached 1.7 billion views, breaking their own record of the first, most, and highest views. Not only this but ‘Kill This Love (1.4 billion views), ‘BOOMBAYAH (1.3 billion views)’, ‘As If It’s Your Last (1.1 billion views)’, ‘How You Like That (1 billion views)’ have also reached more than 1 billion views.
