BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV Surpasses 1.1B Views… 3 MVs with Over 1.1B Views, ‘Global Popularity’

[스타뉴스=문완식 기자] The MV for ‘BOOMBAYAH’ by girl group BLACKPINK(JENNIE, JISOO, LISA, ROSÉ) has surpassed 1.1B views on YouTube. It is BLACKPINK’s 3rd MV to surpass 1.1B views.

According to YG Entertainment on February 4, BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV surpassed 1.1B views on YouTube as of 4:29 PM. The record was achieved in 114 days since the video reached 1B views.

As a result, BLACKPINK became the first-ever K-Pop artist to have 3 MVs with over 1.1B views.

Prior to ‘BOOMBAYAH’, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and ‘Kill This Love’ have reached 1.1B views. The two MVs are about to surpass 1.5B and 1.2B views, respectively.

‘BOOMBAYAH’ is one of the double title tracks of BLACKPINK’s debut single album ‘SQUARE ONE’, released back in August 2016. The addictive chorus and exciting drum beats are the characters of the song, and the MV is still stacking views at a fast pace although it has been over 4 years since the video was released on YouTube.

Its popularity even climbed back up on YouTube. It took 5 months and 13 days for the video to reach 800M views from 700M, 4 months and 15 days to reach 900M from 800M, and approximately 3 months to reach 1B from 900M, showing an upward trend.

BLACKPINK has a strong presence on YouTube. Including the 3 MVs with over 1.1B views, BLACKPINK has a total of 25 videos with over 100M views.

BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel also currently has approximately 56.8M subscribers, making BLACKPINK the most subscribed female artist in the world. They are right behind Justin Bieber, who is currently the most subscribed artist in the world(60.7M).

Meanwhile, after successfully completing ‘THE SHOW’, BLACKPINK will continue their solo projects. ROSÉ’s upcoming sub-title track ‘GONE’ and its MV was revealed for the first time at the concert, raising the fans’ anticipation.
