BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV Hits 900M Views… Third Since ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’·’Kill This Love’

[엑스포츠뉴스=김미지 기자] Group BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV surpassed 900M views on YouTube.

It is their third MV to surpass 900M views following ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, which has the highest view count among all K-Pop group MVs with 1.2B views and ‘Kill This Love’(900M).

On July 10 at 12:47PM, YG Entertainment has confirmed the record and uploaded a celebration poster through their official blog.

‘BOOMBAYAH’ is a song which notified BLACKPINK’s debut along with ‘WHISTLE’ and is a song with a catchy chorus and exciting drumbeats. Since its release back in August 2016, the song has received steady love from global music fans, while the dance practice video for the song is also about to surpass 200M views in the near future.

BLACKPINK has solidified their status as the ‘YouTube Queens’ with ‘How You Like That’, the pre-release single from their upcoming first official album.

The ‘How You Like That’ MV, released last month on the 26th, reached 86.3M views on the date of its release and was listed on 5 categories of the Guinness World Records including the ‘Most Watched YouTube Video in 24 Hours’ category. Then in 32 hours, the video surpassed 100M views and 200M views in 7 days, setting the fastest record among all MVs uploaded on YouTube as well as proving their global popularity.

The popularity of ‘How You Like That’ not only raised the status of K-Pop, but also contributed in expanding BLACKPINK’s new fanbase. The number of BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel subscribers increased by 3.5 million in the past 2 weeks, surpassing a total of 41 million subscribers.

BLACKPINK has a total of 19 videos with over 100M views. Their total accumulated views add up to over 10 billion. It is the highest number among all K-Pop groups. Since the ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’ MV is also about to reach 900M views and their representative songs are also stacking up views at a fast rate due to the synergy effect, the group is expected to continue their record march.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s ‘How You Like That’ won 4 crowns on Gaon Charts for the 27th week(06.28~07.04) of 2020, by topping the Digital·Downloads·Streaming·Social Charts. The song is maintaining its no. 1 spot on music platforms including Bugs and Melon, which is the biggest music streaming platform in Korea.

They also set a milestone in K-Pop girl group history by performing well on two of the biggest Pop charts in the world. ‘How You Like That’ was ranked at no. 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and at no. 20 on UK’s Official Singles chart, renewing the highest rank in K-Pop girl group history.
