‘YG TREASURE BOX’, The Entry Barrier Towards the Debut Group Was High! Challengers CHOI HYUN SUK-KIM SEUNG HUN Continuously Fail!

[마이데일리 = 여동은 기자] The ‘1:1 position swap’ mission was still fierce. And the entry barrier towards the debut group was higher than expected. Skilled trainees including KIM SEUNG HUN and CHOI HYUN SUK who are regarded as ‘untouchable’ among the trainees failed to enter the debut group, and had to remain as regular trainees, surprising the viewers.
As the battles between ‘the ones trying to take’ and the ‘ones trying to protect’ is getting fiercer, the ‘Treasures’ are making the trainees worried by showing that their spots are not easy to take.
On the 5th episode of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ pre-released through Naver V LIVE (V App) on December 14 at 10 PM, the competition between the Treasures of the debut group and the challengers trying to take their positions continued. With KIM YEON GYU being the unexpected one to defeat his ‘close fried’ PARK JEONG WOO to join the debut group, the challengers continued to go after the positions of SO JUNGHWAN, MASHIHO, HA YOONBIN, and BANG YE DAM.
CHOI HYUN SUK challenged SO JUNGHWAN who prepared to perform BTS’ ‘Lie’. CHOI HYUN SUK dominated the audience with his technical dance skills and relaxed facial expressions. He selected the silver card after the performance was complete, which was the choice of the representative producer. Representative producer YANG HYUN SUK’s choice was ‘SO JUNGHWAN’. He explained his decision by stating, “SO JUNGHWAN lacks in technique but has great power”. CHOI HYUN SUK shed tears of burden and worries after coming back to the waiting room while stating, “I’ve practiced for a long time, but that’s all I could do. I’m worried I might not be able to make debut”, making the viewers feel pity.
The next challenger was KIM SEUNG HUN. The three vocalists of the debut group including KIM JUN KYU, BANG YE DAM, and MASHIHO appeared to be tense. KIM SEUNG HUN revealed, “The one I would like to challenge is KIM JUN KYU but I select MASHIHO”, and the two people completed a sweet performance with Dean’s ‘D’. MASHIHO selected the gold card, and the two trainees showed mixed responses. The gold card included representative producer YANG HYUN SUK’s choice, and his choice was MASHIHO. On the other hand, the winner on the silver card with the decision of 100 Treasure Makers was KIM SEUNG HUN. MASHIHO himself calmed himself down while stating, “I would’ve been at risk if I chose the silver card”, while KIM SEUNG HUN made everyone heartbroken by shedding tears outside of the stage.
The third challenger was YOSHINORI who performed Beenzino’s ‘Aqua Man’ with HA YOONBIN, but the winner turned out to be HA YOONBIN. The last challenger was WANG JYUNHAO. He chose BANG YE DAM without hesitation and the two trainees perfectly performed Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’. BANG YE DAM selected the gold card with the representative producer’s decision after the performance. Representative producer YANG HYUN SUK selected BANG YE DAM and explained, “No artist would defeat him if he sings like that. I think the viewers would’ve made the same decision as I did”.
When all the performances were complete, and the trainees were feeling a sense of frustration, MC Jang Sungkyu announced, “We will select additional challengers to challenge Treasures HARUTO and KIM JUN KYU who were not selected”, surprising everyone.
As talented trainees have failed to surpass the high entry barrier towards the debut group, the Naver V LIVE (V App) ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ channel real-time chat room also became heated. The fans in and out of Korea shared words of comfort and support by writing, “I can’t watch, I’m too heartbroken. Can’t we just let them debut as separate groups?”, “We’ll support all together for you”, “Seung Hun, don’t cry”, “Am I the only one that thought BANG YE DAM’s performance was really an AR”.
Meanwhile, an unusual mission on a playground was previewed for next week, grabbing the attention of viewers. An urgent mission for the Treasure 7 to ‘form 3 units with 2 members each’ was announced, while it was also noticed that the 1 remaining member without a team would have to become a regular trainee. The following mission was the 2:2-unit position swap. WINNER appeared as special judges as the second video evaluations to select new challengers have started, raising expectations on the upcoming episode.
Meanwhile, ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ is a survival program to launch YG’s new artists of 2019 through YG’s differentiated trainee casting, audition, training system, monthly evaluations, and idol producing. The program airs every Friday night at 10 PM through V LIVE and Naver TV.
