According to YG Entertainment on the 23rd, BLACKPINK signed with Interscope Records, which is a label from Universal Music.

Interscope is Universal’s representative label known for signing artists such as Dr. Dre·2pac·Eminem·Kendrick Lamar·Maroon 5·Guns N’ Roses·Madonna·Lady Gaga·Selena Gomez·Black Eyed Peas·Zedd·DJ Snake.

BLACKPINK will now work will world-famous celebrities. While the global interest towards K-Pop is coherently higher than ever, BLACKPINK has started their march towards something amazing in 2 years since making debut. US Billboard previously wrote, “BLACKPINK is starting a revolution” back when the group released ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, and now the revolution will expand into the United States. 

The chairman and CEO of Universal Music, Lucian Grainge, also emphasized that BLACKPINK will be his ‘priority project’. He explained, “I’m happy that Interscope family now shares a relationship with YG through BLACKPINK. We will work on BLACKPINK’s amazing success based on the global resources and professional knowledge of Universal Music Group. We hope that the public keeping keen eyes on BLACKPINK will extend further into the whole world”. 

The global interest towards BLACKPINK is high. The song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ topped US Billboard’s Billboard 200 and Hot 100, and UK Official Chart’s Singles Top 100, proving the group’s global influence. All 6 MVs released by BLACKPINK including ‘BOOMBAYAH’, ‘WHISTLE’, ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE’, ‘STAY’, ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’. And ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ have over 100 million views on YouTube. Pop-star Dua Lipa offered to collaborate with BLACKPINK after realizing the group’s potential. The song ‘KISS AND MAKE UP’ released by BLACKPINK and Dua Lipa is a lively rhythmical dance track composed of both English and Korean. The song topped foreign iTunes Charts in 21 different countries, while being placed at no. 8 in the US, proving the artists’ global popularity. 

Producer TEDDY who has been exclusively managing BLACKPINK’s music has stated, “It’s an amazing news. The entertainment business is more global than ever these days. Music and real talent can cross cultures, languages and have no limits”. He added, “We hope this partnership can expand BLACKPINK’s potential into a larger scale.
