[헤럴드POP=이미지 기자] BLACKPINK proved themselves as the ‘group that took over the summer of 2018’ before wrapping up their promotional period.

The title song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ from BLACKPINK’s first mini album ‘SQUARE UP’ topped the monthly charts for July in 5 different music platforms including Melon, Olleh Music, Genie, Soribada, and Monkey 3.

BLACKPINK achieved the best results among all artists who made comeback on June and July. Among various genres of music released, BLACKPINK clearly revealed their team color by releasing music that sounds like ‘BLACKPINK’. The song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ which had a stronger concept compared to the group’s previous releases received positive reviews from music fans and became BLACKPINK’s new opportunity to step forward.

While receiving love and support from fans even during the end of their promotional period, BLACKPINK became the hot topic of the summer. BLACKPINK also topped the daily chart of Melon, Korea’s largest music streaming platform, for 30 consecutive days. It is the longest record ever since the music chart reformation that happened last year on February.

The group not only performed well on daily charts but also on weekly charts, and topped weekly charts of Melon, Bugs, and Genie for 4 consecutive weeks. The group continued to top Korean music charts after making their comeback on June 15.

The group also debuted on Billboard’s main charts including the ‘Billboard 200’ as no. 40 and ‘Hot 100’ as no. 55. They set a milestone in K-Pop girl group history by entering Billboard’s 2 main charts at once for the first time as a K-Pop girl group. The MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ also became the ‘2nd Most Watched MV’ on YouTube in 24 hours since its release.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will wrap up their promotional period with their performance on SBS ‘Inkigayo’ on the 5th, following their appearance on ‘Show! Music Core’ today.
