[Music Talk Talk] Is WINNER sweeping only domestic charts? Ranked No.1 on iTunes of 11 countries+17th on American iTunes chart
[OSEN=최나영 기자] Not only Korean but also overseas fans are hailing for WINNER’s comeback.
On February 1 in the morning, group WINNER’s new mini-alum took No.1 on iTunes charts of 11 countries. It is ranked in the 17th place on iTunes chart of the United States.
As of February 1 at 8am, WINNER’s new song “BABY BABY” is ranked No.1 on the real-time charts of Korea’s biggest music-streaming website Melon, as well as Genie Music, Olleh Music, NAVER Music, Soribada, and Bugs.
The other title track “SENTIMENTAL” is in the first place on Mnet.com and in the second place on the charts of other major music websites. Other songs of the album such as “IMMATURE” and “I’M YOUNG” are also in high ranks on charts.
With such a great record written by WINNER, YG Entertainment is now marking a successful beginning of the year 2016.
WINNER made their official comeback with the release of new mini-alum “EXIT:E” on February 1 at 0 o’clock. The album has “BABY BABY” and “SENTIMENTAL” as its double title tracks. Notably, WINNER members themselves directly took part in writing the song in the album, to further raise its quality. WINNER committed themselves to working on new songs during their absence from the music scene, to create quality music. YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK was so satisfied with the quality of WINNER’s new songs, so he decided to unveil those songs in a new album.
For “BABY BABY”, one of the double title tracks, NAM TAEHYUN, SONG MINHO, and LEE SEUNGHOON wrote the lyrics and NAM TAEHYUN wrote the melody. For “SENTIMENTAL”, the other title track, NAM TAEHYUN, SONG MINHO, and LEE SEUNGHOON wrote the lyrics, while NAM TAEHYUN and KANG Wook-Jin wrote the melody.
The cover project for “BABY BABY” participated by famous musicians drew big attention. Not only YG artists including LEE HI and TAEYANG but also other labels’ artists such as Zion.T and DEAN covered “BABY BABY”. Then, AKMU, Katie Kim, G-DRAGON, and EPIK HIGH covered “SENTIMENTAL”. The unexpected lineup of musicians who covered WINNER’s new songs created sensation.
“SENTIMENTAL” is a song that wittily expresses a sentimental feeling that anyone could feel from time to time. Its comfortable melody and realistic lyrics well-resonate with listeners. Notably, the chorus part that goes “I feel sentimental now” is especially catchy.
People say that WINNER has come back with songs that is the most original to WINNER. Music videos of WINNER’s new songs are giving even bigger momentum to the sensation created by WINNER.
