WINNER’s comeback coming up, will they come back within the year? [XP Focus]
[엑스포츠뉴스=한인구 기자] Group WINNER is preparing for comeback, shooting music videos. Fans are paying keen attention to whether WINNER can actually release a new album within this year, when BIGBANG and iKON’s comeback and debut projects have not been finished yet.
An insider of YG Entertainment, WINNER’s label, said to Xsports News on the 30 this month, “WINNER has finished shooting of the music videos for some new songs. They are now working hard on comeback”.
WINNER has recently finished the shooting of two new music videos in Sweden and now they are preparing for other new music videos. It is also known that WINNER is to present a new style and differentiated concept which is totally different from what they presented with their debut album.
WINNER released their debut album “2014 S/S” on August 12 last year and enjoyed big popularity with double title tracks “empty” and “COLOR RING”.
YG carried out single album project “MADE” of BIGBANG, the leading idol boy group of the company. BIGBANG released singles every month from May 1 to August this year, and songs of the series including “LOSER”, “BANG BANG BANG”, and “LET’S NOT FALL IN LOVE” swept music charts.
WINNER’s “brother group” iKON made an official debut this year. After releasing debut warm-up single album “MY TYPE”, iKON released debut half album “WELCOME BACK” on October 1.
On the 28 this month, YG announced that the release of iKON’s debut full album which had originally scheduled for November 2 has been rescheduled. Such decision was made because of YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK’s special order to “create a mega-hit song that goes beyond ‘MY TYPE'”.
As the schedule for iKON’s album release has been delayed, it seems that the schedule of BIGBANG’s full album which was also postponed from the original schedule of September 1 will also change. YG delayed the schedule of BIGBANG’s full album, saying, “We decided that BIGBANG needs a time for recharging themselves, as they have worked so hard for the past four months.”
At a press meeting held after the end of iKON’s debut concert on October 3, YANG said, “Since more and more people listen to music on-line, I decided to create the music videos for the good songs written by YG artists, so that more people around the world can enjoy good music.”
As YG now follows a new strategy of releasing the music and its music video at the same time, YG artists can perform their new songs for a longer period of time.
However, some speculate that WINNER’s comeback for this year will not be easy, as the comeback project of BIGBANG and the debut project of iKON have not ended yet. Some fans are worried about the absence of WINNER for more than a year. However, now that WINNER is shooting new music videos, it is likely that the team will release a new album by the end of this year or beginning of next year and perform for their new album for an extended period of time as BIGBANG and iKON did.
