D-5 Until “YG UNIT”: 3 Reasons for High Anticipation
[TV리포트=김예나 기자]YG Entertainment’s new unit HI SUHYUN will be releasing their debut single “I’M DIFFERENT” on Nov 11. Every time YG showcases a new member the agency gets all the spotlight—but why especially on this new unit?
◆ The “Muscially Powerful” LEE HI and AKDONG MUSICIAN Come Together
Both LEE HI and LEE SUHYUN have the record of sweeping charts immediately after their debut. Since 2012, LEE HI attracted attention every time she released a new song: “1,2,3,4”, “SCARECROW”, “IT’S OVER”, and “ROSE”—all of which became a hit.
As for LEE SUHYUN, she released an album as part of AKDONG MUSICIAN in April, knocking down all music charts and programs with the debut album “PLAY.” Their title track “200%” received whopping 10 trophies. They solidified their music world through performing live and on TV.
◆ Two Teenage Girls Both Discovered on “K-Pop Star”
Interestingly, both girls are discovered on “K-Pop Star.” LEE HI was the runner-up in season 1 while AKDONG MUSICAN became the winner of the 2nd one. As they meet in YG, the two became to share a very strong bond.
But the two possess completely different tones of voice. LEE HI’s is mid-low and soulful while LEE SUHYUN’s is clear and bubbly. The two went for different genres as well—LEE HI for retro soul and R&B while LEE SUHYUN for folk. No wonder all eyes are on these seemingly distant two, who will be coming together as one.
◆ The Genius Song-Writer Rebecca, Chosen by “YG”
Their new song “I’M DIFFERENT” is written by P.K and Rebecca Johnson, while rearranged by P.K. Rebecca Johnson is a genius song-writer in her early 20’s. The name is unfamiliar, but her talent is already well proven through TAEYANG’s “EYES, NOSE, LIPS.”
YG’s personnel commented, “Mr. YANG HYUN SUK personally scouted her from the States. She will be in the forefront of YG’s new girl group and LEE HI’s songs.”
Other than her, YG’s Master Wu and iKON’s BOBBY wrote the song as well. BOBBY will even be featuring in the song, showcasing his powerful and dynamic rapping.
HI SUHYUN’s “I’M DIFFERENT” comes out at midnight of Nov 11.
