T.O.P’s new DOOM DADA knocks down 7 music charts
[스포츠한국 김성한 기자] BIGBANG’s T.O.P has indeed topped major South Korean music charts with his newly released song ‘Doom Dada.’
T.O.P’s new song ‘Doom Dada’, when revealed at noon on Nov 15, swept across whopping seven domestic real-time music charts including Melon, Naver Music, Olleh, Bugs, Mnet, Genie, and Monkey 3 (as of 1 p.m. the same day), proving its enormous power in the music market.
This is T.O.P’s first solo song in 3 years and 5 months since ‘Turn It Up’ in June 2010. Back then he was in charge of writing the lyrics and co-composing it with producer Teddy, and once again he wrote the lyrics of ‘Doom Dada’ and co-composed it with CHOICE37, who is known for composing BIGBANG’s ‘Bad Boy’ and G-DRAGON’s ‘One of a Kind’. T.O.P returns to shed new light on his talents as a singer-songwriter.
The new ‘Doom Dada’ expresses T.O.P himself, from the point of view of looking at contemporary pop culture. The fierce lyrics hold an abstract concept and a melody with surreal ambience. The sub-base creates an eerie atmosphere, while the synth sounds make the song all the more fresh. The fast-paced and rhythmical rap delivers an addictive hook in the song.
The unique teaser images 1, 2 and 3 uploaded on YG Entertainment’s official blog aroused much attention with the peculiar photographs and surreal ambience.
At the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards scheduled to be held in Hong Kong on Nov 22, T.O.P will be delivering a performance for the first time on television, a performance that symbolizes the regression of contemporary pop culture, going way back to the evolution of the humanity.
T.O.P is solidly positioning himself as an actor as well as being a beloved singer, with this starring movie ‘Commitment’ (directed by Park Hong Soo) being the most-booked film with accumulated viewers of 860,000 in just one week (as of Nov 15).
Meanwhile, T.O.P’s music video will be directed by Seo Hyun Seung, who is arousing much attention with the stylish music video of TAEYANG’s new song ‘Ringa Linga’. The music video of ‘Doom Dada’ took 4 long days to film, and it will rid its veil in the evening of Nov 15.
