WIN, YG’s version of Superstar K? “No evil editing!”
[한국아이닷컴 이정현 기자] Will the new program WIN, which will determine the future of YG Entertainment’s new boy group, have ‘evil editing’?
WIN (stands for Who Is Next), which is to be aired for the first time on August 23, is a survival program created by YG Entertainment that divides its trainees into two groups for a very fierce competition. The winning team gets to make a debut immediately after the show ends, but the losing team’s debut will be postponed indefinitely.
WIN, although produced by YG Entertainment, will be aired on CJ E&M’s cable channels Mnet and tvN. So it is only inevitable that the program looks similar to other audition programs on the channel, like Superstar K. Some viewers raise the voice of concern asking if YG would adopt a similar editing style to that of Superstar K, because the contestants are in it for a real survival battle, but the ‘evil’ editing may simply make the members an object of sacrifice.
To this, CJ E&M said, “The program will be aired through us, but ‘WIN’ is created by YG. So of course the entertainment agency holds the editing rights.” This means there will be no ‘evil’ editing on the show.
Related personnel added, “Since CJ E&M is experienced in running audition and survival programs, we are simply giving the agency advice. We will not be involved in creating the show. And the editing will not revolve around providing ‘entertainment’ to the audience. Since the appearing members are already charming and their stories are moving, there is not much to add to make it more interesting.”
Personnel from YG said, “Issues related to editing right is very sensitive. We will be cooperating with CJ E&M but there will be no artificial editing added to the show.”
At the press conference on WIN on August 20, YG’s founder Yang Hyun Suk commented, “We first considered SBS but because we wanted to keep the sense of realness, we decided to go with cable channels. By doing this, we were able to produce WIN freely and true to the contents.”
He added, “Through WIN, we aim to show the real stories of the contestants to the viewers. It is harsh as the losing team may have to break up, but we want to show the future trainees how it works in the professional world.”
WIN is a real survival program between two teams, consisting of 11 YG Entertainment’s trainees. Group A consists 5 members including the ex-contestant of Superstar K2 and the recently debuted KANG SEUNG YOON, and the ex-contestant of K-Pop Star, LEE SEUNG HOON. The average age is 20 years old. Group B consists of 6 members with an average age of 17 years old, and among them is the then 12-year-old boy rapper B.I who featured in MC Mong’s ‘Indian Boy’.
The 1st episode goes on air at 10p.m. on August 23.
