“We Will Become TREASURE Who Always Spreads Positive Influences”
[CBS노컷뉴스=김수정 기자] TREASURE, who received attention as the rookie group being announced by YG Entertainment in 4 years since BLACKPINK and as a boy group launched in 5 years following iKON, released their official debut album.
On January 11 at 1 PM, TREASURE held a global press conference celebrating the release of ‘THE FIRST STEP : TREASURE EFFECT’ and shared stories regarding their album and promotional activities. Entertainer Jang Sung-kyu was the MC of the conference.
CHOI HYUN SUK stated, “It’s an honor to make comeback with an official debut album” while DOYOUNG revealed, “It feels marvelous, even more than when we released our first single album, and feels like a dream”. YOSHI asked, “We put in our variety of charms different from what we previously presented, so please look forward to it” while JUNG HWAN stated, “We’ll soon revisit you through a stage passing out hope”.
The album puts together ‘THE FIRST STEP’ series released last year on August, September, and November. There are 3 all-new tracks including the title track ‘MY TREASURE’, ‘BE WITH ME’, and ‘SLOWMOTION’ among the 12 tracks(Physical CD, 10 songs on digital album).
BANG YE DAM explained, “’TREASURE EFFECT’ contains TREASURE’s warm consolation and support”. He introduced, “With the theme that we all shine and that we are treasure-like beings, we tried to pass on our voices. The MV has a fairytale fantasy and musical-like mood”.
Regarding the title track ‘MY TREASURE’, DOYOUNG explained and hoped, “It has a differentiated identity(from the songs they’ve released). It’s a bright and hopeful Pop song. The demo song felt fresh. We charged positive energy while recording the song, and we hope that the energy will be passed on to the listeners”.
Members CHOI HYUN SUK, YOSHI, and HARUTO participated in writing the lyrics of ‘MY TREASURE’. CHOI HYUN SUK hinted, “We are continuing to participate in the writing and composing of songs. Since we want to share stories we want to at the moment, working on the songs itself has meaning and is a way for us to heal”. He added, “There are many good songs that are yet to be released”.
The group also worked hard to add fresh and bright charms on their MV and choreography. Regarding the MV, JUNKYU pointed out, “The fairytale fantasy-like set and musical-like direction is the biggest character”. JIHOON explained, “We tried to add fresh charms through face painting and purple suits. We filmed with YG dancers for the first time. Since the scale of the video got bigger, we prepared for a lot of performances”.
SO JUNG WHAN stated, “Our dance is full of TREASURE’s happy and lively energy along with a musical-like performance direction and witty acting by the members. The dance we perform while singing ‘You’re pretty when you smile’ is called the ‘smile dance’ and ‘cheekbone rising dance’ among us. We hope the fans would name them. Please watch our performances”.
When MC Jang Sung-kyu asked what the members’ definition of ‘treasure’ is, MASHIHO replied, “Our treasure is our fans, Treasure Makers. YG, who connected TREASURE and the Treasure Makers is also treasure”. CHOI HYUN SUK answered, ‘memories’ and explained, “I hope ‘MY TREASURE’ will stay as happy memories among the listeners”.
‘SLOWMOTION’ is a song created by LEE CHAN HYUK of AKMU, from the same agency. The members of TREASURE selected ‘SLOWMOTION’ as a special song. YOON JAE HYUK revealed, “I think all 12 songs are good, but if I had to choose one besides the title track, it’s ‘SLOWMOTION’. CHAN HYUK of AKMU gifted the song to us himself and helped us by directing, which will stay in my memories”.
On the request asking to express TREASURE in one word, MASHIHO replied, “I would like to express TREASURE as the color sky-blue. As we earn strength by looking at the blue sky in hard times, I hope you will be consoled by watching us”.
CHOI HYUN SUK stated, “We’ll become TREASURE who repays your love and support”, while JIHOON stated, “We want to pass on TREASURE’s positive energy by working hard, as much as the attention many people give us. We’ll become TREASURE who always spreads positive influences”.
TREASURE’s official debut album ‘THE FIRST STEP : TREASURE EFFECT’ was released on the 11th at 6 PM through various music platforms. According to YG Entertainment on the 12th, the album topped iTunes charts in 18 different countries, while its title track ‘MY TREASURE’ topped Japan AWA’s Top Rising Chart, while the song ‘GOING CRAZY’ which was the signal song of ‘YG TREASURE BOX’ topped Rakuten Music’s Real-time Comprehensive Rankings.
