BLACKPINK Fascinates Fans of UK, The Birthplace of Pop Music… Proves ‘World Class’ Popularity

[엑스포츠뉴스=전아람 기자] Girl group BLACKPINK successfully completed their first-ever tour in the UK, performing on a stage where global musicians have previously performed.

On May 21 and 22nd(local time), BLACKPINK held the ‘BLACKPINK 2019 WORLD TOUR with KIA [IN YOUR AREA]‘ in UK’s Manchester Arena and in The SSE Arena, Wembley and met the fans of the UK for the first time.

The Manchester Arena is a historical place where global pop stars such as The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Britney Spears have performed. The SSE Arena, Wembley is also a place where global musicians such as The Beatles, the legendary Pop band, Abba, and Beyoncé have performed. 

On stages where the biggest stars have previously performed, BLACKPINK grabbed the audiences’ hearts with their unique performances and stage manners. They have proved their status as a ‘global top girl group’ by successfully performing in arena-scale venues on their first-ever concerts being held in the UK. 

Fans including families, friends, and lovers have lined up from early hours on the date of the concert, making the people realize BLACKPINK’s local popularity. BLINKs(fans) of various nationalities greeted BLACKPINK in pink outfits which represented the color of BLACKPINK’s official light sticks, along with hand-made props. 

BLACKPINK began their concert by performing their mega-hit, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, and raised the mood of the scene by performing ‘KILL THIS LOVE’, which became the fastest song to surpass 300 million views in K-Pop group history. ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ is currently very popular in the UK, and the song has charted on UK’s ‘Official Singles Chart Top 100’ for 6 consecutive weeks. The Official Chart is known as one of the 3 biggest music charts in the world.

During their concert in Manchester, BLACKPINK mourned for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing which happened 2 years ago by singing ‘STAY’ with the audience. ROSÉ shared a message of condolences for the victims and their families by stating, “We dedicate our next song for the victims of the accident which happened in this arena 2 years ago. Please sing and commemorate with us”. 

BBC ENTERTAINMENT, the representative public broadcast of the UK, joined BLACKPINK’s concert in London to cover the group. In addition, related industry officials such as President Tom March of Polydor, which is the representative UK label of Universal Music Group and Pop programmer Mel Lewis of BBC Radio 1 joined the interview scene to spotlight BLACKPINK.

BLACKPINK revealed their thoughts on holding their first-ever concert in the UK and connected with the fans until their very last performance. At the end of the concert, LISA shared her thoughts by stating, “It’s my first time visiting the UK, and I’m so happy that I’m dancing while enjoying this moment with all of you”. JISOO stated, “All of us members will reminisce this beautiful moment we experienced in the UK”. 

JENNIE shared her gratitude by stating, “I was deeply touched by the passionate cheers you gave us”, while ROSÉ looked forward to their next meeting by stating, “Thank you BLINKs for making us memories on a special night, and I hope to see you again”. 

While heating up various nations in Europe, BLACKPINK will head to Berlin on the 24th. They will then continue their tour in 6 regions of Europe by performing in Paris on the 26th and in Barcelona on the 28th, expanding their area of global activity.
