BLACKPINK Appears on ‘Good Morning America’… Carves Global Presence

[엑스포츠뉴스=박소현 기자] Group BLACKPINK carved their presence strongly through ‘Good Morning America’, the representative TV show of ABC.

On February 12 (local time), ABC News and ‘Good Morning America’ revealed BLACKPINK’s performance of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and their interview through the official website and YouTube channel.

BLACKPINK appeared on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America, GMA’, the morning TV show with the highest viewers ratings and a history of over 40 years, and shook Times Square, New York with their performance of “DDU-DU DDU-DU’. When BLACKPINK appeared on Times Square, fans holding official lighting sticks welcomed BLACKPINK with a huge roar, proving BLACKPINK’s global popularity.

Prior to his interview with BLACKPINK, the host introduced BLACKPINK’s achievements that matches their nickname of ‘YouTube Queens’ by stating, “BLACKPINK’s music has billions of views online”. He added, “These fans love and support BLACKPINK so much that they would even spend an all nightery just to see them”, mentioning BLINK, BLACKPINK’s fan club. When the host asked, “Are any ‘BLINK’ members here?”, the audience started roaring. ROSÉ revealed her strong affections towards BLINK by stating, “Our fans are so sweet”. 

On the following interview, the members of BLACKPINK responded to the host’s questions in fluent English. They also raised the local fans’ expectations by mentioning their upcoming ‘North America tour’. JENNIE revealed her excitement by stating, “I’m looking forward to the North America tour to be held on April”, while ROSÉ added, “We were recently invited from Coachella. As we got invited, we thought this would be the appropriate time to go on a North America tour”. The audience responded by cheering, here and there.

Before BLACKPINK performed ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, the host introduced, “BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ set a milestone of reaching 660 million views on YouTube”. He added, “Today will be their first-ever performance on a American live TV show”, and the audience responded with a loud applause.

As if they forgot the fact that it was their ‘first-ever performance on a live American TV show’, BLACKPINK presented perfect group moves filled with confidence and discipline. The audience sang-along to ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and followed their choreography, becoming united while enjoying BLACKPINK’s music. 

While successfully finishing their ‘first-ever performance on a live American TV show’, BLACKPINK has also received a standing ovation after appearing on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on the 11th (local time). 

Billboard wrote, “The fans who were excited during the ‘Late Show’ wrote the hashtag ‘BLACKPINKonLSSC’ on social media, which was ranked on the real-time global trend”, revealing the group’s global popularity. UK Metro wrote, “Although they performed at a studio, BLACKPINK engraved their strong presence to the audience with their smooth and perfect dance moves, rap, and vocals”, praising BLACKPINK’s performance. 

While leaving a strong impression on viewers while appearing on popular American TV shows day by day, BLACKPINK will also appear on ABC’s ‘Strahan and Sara’, the afternoon show that is an extension of ‘Good Morning America’, on the 15th.

BLACKPINK will perform at the ‘Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’ for the first time as K-Pop idols on April 12 and 19. Starting in Los Angeles on April 17, BLACKPINK will perform in Chicago on April 24, Hamilton on April 27, Newark on May 1, Atlanta on May 5, and in Fort Worth on May 8. The group will meet the local fans in 6 cities through a total of 6 concerts on their North America tour.
