BLACKPINK Selected as 2018 Artist of the Year by YouTube… Only K-Pop Girl Group to be Selected [OFFICIAL]
[OSEN=정지원 기자] Group BLACKPINK was selected as the artist of the year by YouTube, proving their global presence.
On December 6 (local time), YouTube selected BLACKPINK as the global artist that lead the trend of 2018 through ‘YouTube Rewind 2018’.
‘YouTube Rewind’ is a project ran by YouTube every year-end to settle the yearly trend. BLACKPINK was placed on the list among global superstars including Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar. They were also the only K-Pop girl group to be on the list, proving their unrivaled presence as the representative K-Pop girl group.
BLACKPINK’s achievements on YouTube were dominant among other groups of K-POP. The MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ released last year on June surpassed 500 million views in 162 days, shortened the previous fastest record by 7 months, which was 2 times faster than it originally took. BLACKPINK became the group to hold the fastest video to surpass 500 million views among all groups of K-Pop.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK has the most number of MVs with over ‘400 million views’ among all groups of K-POP. With ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’, and ‘BOOMBAYAH’, BLACKPINK has three MVs with over ‘400 million’ views.
All MVs released by BLACKPINK including ‘BOOMBAYAH’, ‘WHISTLE’, ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE’, ‘STAY’, ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, and JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ have surpassed over 100 million views on YouTube, proving BLACKPINK’s global influential power.
While setting milestones in the K-POP scene, BLACKPINK has surpassed 15 million YouTube subscribers, and is the K-Pop group with the ‘most number of subscribers’. The group also received the ‘Diamond Creator Award’ from YouTube this year.
Recently, the choreography videos for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’, and ‘BOOMBAYAH’ have surpassed 100 million views allowing BLACKPINK to hold 3 choreography videos with over 100 million views among all boy and girl groups of K-POP.
BLACKPINK, ‘The representative K-Pop group’, has successfully completed their first-ever solo concert in Seoul last month on the 10th and 11th. They will go on their first-ever world tour next year on January and perform in various cities of the world including Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei.
