Everything about AKMU was Good, from their Live Singing to their Funny Jokes
[OSEN=김은애 기자] If you think that AKDONG MUSICIAN (AKMU) can only sing, then you are wrong. AKMU mesmerized the audience with their flawless live performances and great sense of humor.
On March 23, AKMU held a concert at Mary Hall, Sogang University. The harmony of the siblings duo was as sweet as the spring breeze.
AKMU said hi to the audience and said, “It’s been two years since we had our first concert. Thank you all for coming.”
#AKMU’s Diary
The main theme of this concert was “diary” to show AKMU’s unique perspective on the world. The concert was comprised of three parts—CHAN HYUK’s diary, SOO HYUN’s diary, and AKMU’s diary—so that AKMU can show off their diverse charms to the audience.
Before the concert kicked off, a video was played. It was the diary of AKMU siblings’ parents. The video showed LEE CHAN HYUK and LEE SOO HYUN when they were children. LEE CHAN HYUK said, “Our mom did the narration for the video and she’s even here today.
# Perfect Live Singing
The list of songs that AKMU sang at the concert was amazing. The group sang an acoustic medley of their favorite songs, “Hard to Love”, and the original sound track of tvN’s “Goblin” on top of their hit songs such as “CRESENDO” and “LAST GOODBYE”.
AKMU’s first sang “Live Broadcasting”, and their live singing was so perfect that it felt like listening to a CD. AKMU also tried hard to make eye contact with all the people in the audience.
It was very clear that AKMU put in a lot of effort and practice into this concert. They didn’t even make a single mistake, and their stage performance was so impeccable that you can’t take your eyes off them.
The live band and the excellent sound system made the concert even more special. Because the venue was small, the fans were able to enjoy AKMU’s music more fully.
#Funny AKMU
AKMU’s great sense of humor added fun to the concert. AKMU is renowned for being funny. LEE SOO HYUN said, “I don’t know since when, but we’ve become almost like comedians. But we liked it.”
They even joked when they were telling the audience why they held the concert in a small venue. LEE CHAN HYUK said, “BIGBANG recently held a concert in a dome. We suggested that we go to Japan and do a concert in a dome to our company. They were quite positive about it, but we wanted to see your faces more closely. “
LEE SOO HYUN made the audience laugh by saying, “We don’t want to make money. We just want to do music. That’s why we chose a place that has a good sound system and is nearby. We are all about music, Mr. Yang!”
AKMU also showed off their different side by performing hip hop songs. The group sang G-DRAGON’s “ONE OF A KIND”. They changed the lyrics of the song and dissed each other, which made the audience laugh. Their rap was a big thumbs up.
#Various Parodies
The videos that were played during the concert were also special. In the videos, AKMU parodied scenes from “Goblin” and “The Unanswered” and showed off their perfect chemistry as siblings. Although they were just videos, the audience was not able stop laughing at every word AKMU said.
LEE CHAN HYUK said, “There is a reason why we parodied ‘Goblin’. People have been telling us that LEE SOO HYUN looks like Kim Go-eun. Don’t I look a lot like Gong Yu?” LEE SOO HYUN added, “The shooting for that parody video took two days. Shooting the scene at the beach was especially difficult because of the strong wind.”
# AKMU’s Dream
Since it was their first concert this year, AKMU made sure that the audience saw enough of them. When the concert was coming to a close, AKMU said, “This should be when the guests come on the stage. But because this is our first concert, we are going to fill the concert with our performances only.”
LEE CHAN HYUK went on to say, “A lot of our songs are about dreams. We sing about dreams and hopes, but people think songs about dreams are for children. I thought to myself ‘Why do hip hop songs sound so cool but songs about dreams don’t?’ I wanted to make these songs sound cool too.”
He added, “When I was seven years old, my dream was to make the world happy. At that time, many people cheered for me, but as I grew older, people started telling me to have a more realistic goal. A lot of young people nowadays give up on their childhood dreams. I want to root for them so that they can keep on dreaming that dream.” LEE SOO HYUN also said, “We want to the ones supporting your dreams.” Then they sang “WILL LAST FOREVER”, which was very touching.
Lastly, AKMU said, “This concert is so meaningful to us. We really worked hard for it. We just want to pat each other on our backs and say well done. The original plan was to have six concerts, but your phenomenal response enabled us have more concerts. Thank you.”
The audience sent fervent responses all throughout the 120-minute concert. Instead of shouting “encore”, fans shouted “don’t cross your legs” to show how their love for AKMU’s music.
Meanwhile, AKMU “Diary” concert at Mary hall will be held until April 2. Then, the group will hold concerts in Gwangju on April 15, in Daegu on April 22, and in Busan on May 27.
