iKON’s Long-awaited Debut Concert Was a Huge Success and Even Made Members Cry
[OSEN=박소영 기자] They took Olympic Gymnastics Stadium – the biggest indoor concert hall in Korea – by storm. More than 13,000 people came to see their concert. They are opening up a new chapter in the history of K-pop with their successful debut. They are the “monster rookie” iKON.
At 6 PM on October 3, iKON held their debut concert “SHOWTIME” at Olympic Gymnastics Stadium in Bangi-dong, Seoul. They waited for a long time to debut and prepared for their debut concert before releasing their debut album. So, fans were excited even before the concert started. It was hard to find empty seats and everyone in the stadium became an “iKONIC” (the official name for iKON’s fans).
When the time came to begin the concert, the faces of iKON members filled the big screen. Then, B.I, BOBBY, KOO JUN HOE, KIM JIN HWAN, JUNG CHAN WOO, SONG YUN HYEONG, KIM DONG HYUK came up on the stage.
The first song was “WELCOME BACK”. iKON members have been waiting for this concert for such a long time, and so, they performed the song with great passion and received a huge response from the audience. The energy and excitement continued on afterwards, all throughout the performances of “SINOSIJAK” and “RHTYHM TA”.
After singing the songs, iKON members said “Hi, everyone. It’s been such a long time. Did you miss us?” Leader B.I said, “This is our first official stage. It’s an honor to perform on such a big stage.” KOO JUN HOE cried out, “Just being here makes me so happy.”
B.I and BOBBY appeared on Mnet’s Show Me The Money 3 and gained recognition for their talent. For their solo performances, B.I and BOBBY performed the songs they sang on the show: “Be I” and “YGGR”. The stage was big, but their presence was strong enough to fill the stage.
iKON is also loved by their fellow musicians at YG Entertainment. CEO YANG HYUN SUK chose Olympic Gymnastics Stadium as the place to have their debut concert as a present, and EPIK HIGH and JINUSEAN performed at the concert as special guests. They were so happy for iKON as if it was their debut concert.
EPIK HIGH said, “We are so happy for iKON. We know what they have gone through to debut and seeing them finally make it is wonderful. We’ve been worried about their debut being delayed so much. But there was no need. “
iKON kept up their energy throughout the concert. They sang their new songs “M.U.P”, “AIRPLANE”, “TODAY’, and the concert hit its climax. When iKON performed “MY TYPE”, the audience sang along with them. They also had a special event prepared inviting the fans to come up on the stage and perform with them.
Then, JINUSEAN came up on the stage and sang “TELL ME ONE MORE TIME” with JANG HAN NA. They also performed “OPPA’S CAR” and “PHONE NUMBER” for their special stage. They were also very happy for iKON and couldn’t help smiling for them.
When the concert neared its end, iKON sang “WAIT FOR US”, “CLIMAX” and “JUST ANOTHER BOY”. As if to express how thankful they were to the fans, they kept looking at them. Soon, their eyes were filled up with tears.
Members burst into tears when a member said, “We were able to have this concert because of you. This is the beginning of iKON. Let’s go on a journey together.”
The concert lasted for more than two hours, and during that time, the fans and iKON truly bonded. The sweat and tears of iKON will stay in the hearts of the fans for a long time. iKON also expressed how much they care about the fans and how excited they are about their “full” album that will be released next month.
iKON is a seven-member boy group consisting of BOBBY, B.I, SONG YUN HYEONG, KIM JIN HWAN, KOO JUN HOE, KIM DONG HYUK, JUNG CHAN WOO, and they had to go through two survival shows since 2013 to make their debut. iKON is YG Entertainment’s ambitious project to create the next BIGBANG.
iKON swept the online charts with their warm-up single “MY TYPE” and became No.1 on the charts of music shows even without making a TV appearance. On October 1, they released their debut half album and demonstrated their powerful hip hop energy with “RHYTHYM TA.”
iKON will release the complete version of their debut album on November 2.
